Client Background

HCL Technologies is a next-generation global tech company that delivers IT services and innovations worldwide. The company boasts a vast number of R&D facilities and co-innovation labs across 52 countries. Throughout their enterprise, they have fostered a culture which encourages all employees to dare to be creative thinkers and innovators collaboratively.

In the UK, HCL has several locations. Over the last six years, Interior Options have supported them by delivering multi-trade installations across their UK base. Over this time, we have formed a great relationship with this client.

The Requirement 

HCL Technologies acquired 80 Gracechurch Street, to predominantly house a client-facing space to showcase the company’s products and services and reflect its drive for innovation and visionary ideology.

Workplace consultancy

To support the client on this project, we worked as a workplace architect, surveyor, and main contractor.

The project involved close collaboration with their Indian and UK teams to ensure we fully appreciated how the space needed to work.

Design Inspiration

Our head designer Katie worked closely with the client to detail and design a creative, agile and future-facing environment.

The designs needed to include communal areas for in-house and virtual collaboration and encompass breakout areas and booth seating for everyday work and socialising.

Katie drew up a plan to take full advantage of the views and natural light. She considered design choices to reflect the company’s ethos for inclusivity and drive towards sustainability. With the use of moss walls and natural colours, she created an organic environment ideal for nurturing creative thinking.

Project challenges

Ensuring materials arrived on schedule has been something that’s been more and more difficult in recent months for our industry as a whole. However, we overcame this by using a supply chain to which we’ve been loyal for many years and at times like this, that loyalty pays back.

Project outcomes

The final outcome combined a biophilic theme and cleverly incorporated hi-tech elements to reflect HCL’s business and culture.   

The inclusion of biophilia and artwork uplifted by the surroundings brings the outdoors into the office and promotes a calming and thought-provoking environment.

The project was delivered on time, and we are pleased to report everything was completed in four weeks from start to finish, which is a considerable achievement.

Our client couldn’t be more delighted with their new client space.
